HYDROPONICS | Growing roots in water

Wednesday 26 October 2022

Once again, plants are everywhere on the interiors scene this autumn. Houseplants come in lots of different shapes and sizes but we’re taking a closer look at the latest hipster trend: hydroponics.

What is hydroponics?
Hydroponics simply means ‘growing plants in water’. All the soil is rinsed off the roots so that you can see how they grow. Consumers often buy hydroponically grown plants off the shelf, but some opt for a do-it-yourself approach by taking cuttings from other plants.

The benefits of hydroponics
Roots that live in water are acclimatised to the amount of water they get, which means that they don’t rot as a result of being permanently submerged. However, there are some exceptions to this rule. We’ve listed plants that do well in hydroponic conditions below.

Advise your customers to change the water once every three weeks to keep the water and the vase clean.
