ON THE MOVE | Florist Stephan Triebe visits Preferred Supplier Kiara Flowers
The Deutscher Meister der Floristen 2016, Stephan Triebe, travelled to Ecuador last March. Here, he discovered the country’s powerful nature and visited different nurseries, including Preferred Supplier Kiara Flowers. Awed by the complex production process, he tells us his story.
Stephan: “Kiara Flowers produces preserved roses and uses two different varieties for their range: a large headed red rose and a small, spray rose in mid-pink. These two varieties are the basis for their selection of preserved roses. It’s only natural that these two varieties are grown to guarantee a consistent quality level.”
Complex production process
“Before the stunning roses are ready for shipping, they undergo a complex production process. First the roses are cut. Then the flower heads are placed on a large, round disc that is put in a large reservoir for bleaching and colouring. At the end of the process, the preserved roses are ready to be painted. All the flower heads are checked individually and painted by hand. Therefore, the price you pay for a rose from Kiara Flowers is justified due to the complex production process and extensive manual labour that is required in making the product.”
