The protea is a powerful flower. We have transformed the protea, in combination with the large-flowered red rose. into a genuine Valentine’s Day item.
Materials:
1 Protea Cynaroides, open
10 large-flowered red roses (such as Red Naomi)
Cold glue
Instructions:
Remove the petals from the roses, but save the best red rose for the centre.
Glue the rose petals to the protea, with the attractive side facing inwards. That may sound a bit strange, but because you only glue the bottom of each petal they remain ‘open’.
Start at the top, working your way around the flower with your first row of rose petals. Glue the second row over the first, overlapping all the while. Repeat until you have reached the stem.
Finish the top of the stem with a piece of pretty ribbon or glue two rose petals onto it.
TIP: You can also substitute the fresh rose in the middle with a preserved rose (like Dijou). The look will be the same, and the result will remain fresh longer.
