Many couples choose to get married in spring or summer. However, autumn is also becoming an increasingly popular season for tying the knot. We understand perfectly how this has come about: the warm colours and cosy, rainy days of autumn can really contribute to a romantic wedding!
So, we joined forces with Zentoo to design some beautiful wedding floristry for this season, featuring the chrysanthemum in a plethora of warm colours. Florist Fiona Konings created some inspiring wedding bouquets and arrangements. We could hardly wait to ask her a few questions about them!
The chrysanthemum is a versatile flower that comes in many different varieties and colours. We asked Fiona to think outside the box, in which she succeeded masterfully! Fiona applied a diversity of techniques in her compositions. She used spray chrysanthemums for a green foundation, keeping the floral foam invisible. Aside from that, the open look and feel allowed the spray chrysanthemums to stand out beautifully.
The chrysanthemum is particularly suitable for wedding floristry because it comes in a huge variety of shapes and colours, and because it can remain fresh so long. As a result, you can enjoy this special flower for many days after your unforgettable wedding. Because the chrysanthemum is available all year round, you can make use of different colours and combinations to suit every season. As a result, the chrysanthemum continues to bring an innovative and surprising touch to all your floral creations. According to Fiona: ‘You can easily bring out the best in every flower with the right colour combinations and quantities.’
Fiona’s favourites which she used in this project are Baltica Salmon and Pastela Rose. ‘Chrysanthemums don’t necessarily need water to remain beautiful all day long.’
The backdrop Fiona designed may seem simple, but the technique behind it is not. The same applies to the other wedding decorations. Fiona applied a diversity of techniques to the pieces she created. The backdrop was created using the insertion method, for example, while she made the bracelet and garland by stringing flowers together. Gluing the heads of chrysanthemums onto a hat created yet another stunning item of wedding floristry. And last but not least: the crown was made using a mesh foundation onto which she glued chrysanthemums.
