Then and now: a peek behind the curtains of FleuraMetz!
Fifty years of FleuraMetz! The first foundations for the company was laid in 1968, a lot has happened in the past five decades. The last 50 years brought lots of changes and innovations with more to come. What were their influence on our colleagues? We asked Trudy van der Kooij
"Bouquets on the turntable"
Trudy, who has been working for FleuraMetz for the past 28 years, says that the changes happened gradually. "I started at Gerard Metz B.V. in 1990 making bunches. At the time, the bouquets were manually sorted on a big, round turntable in the warehouse. Our primary customers were French florists. Slowly, more countries were added to the portfolio and our product range became wider."
Paper time cards
Trudy: "When I started, the company only had about 60 employees. Now there are 1400! We punched in with paper time cards and used neon lamps to check the flowers for bugs. Soon, working around the turntable wasn’t cost-effective anymore. I was then asked to join Administration", she laughs.
